Overview

In this compact Bhutan Festival tour you will also enjoy the beautiful landscapes and varying climates of Thimphu, Paro and Punakha. In addition, explore the main towns and countryside of the high-altitude Bumthang plateau, full of Buddhist sites of pilgrimage and history.

A highlight of the tour is the Thimphu Festival which takes place in Thimphu Dzong. During the year many such festivals are held in the temples and monasteries of Bhutan. The dances are the same in all the festivals and are performed by monks and lay-people who wear elaborate masks and costumes. They are important events in the religious calendar and are of great importance to the Bhutanese people. They are not meant for tourists but tourists are very welcome. They usually take place on the tenth day of a particular month, following the Buddhist lunar calendar. “Tshechu” means “tenth day.”
